A Hyggelig welcome

Hyggelig (pronounced Hew-Ger-ly) is a Danish term used to describe a moment or a feeling. Without a direct translation into English, the best example would be you know that moment that brings a happy sigh and big smile? Hyggelig Photography sets out to take those little Hyggelig moments in your life and create them into your own little piece of art. Please visit our hallway galleries and recent updates to discover for yourself, then contact Janet to setup your own Hyggelig session.

My first post for December is going to be a big one! What a busy but amazing couple of weeks we’ve had.

Michael and I came home from New Zealand this week, a great break for the 2 of us, great for me to see more of my Michael’s homeland than before and boy did the camera get a work out. I had a bit of fun experimenting with some landscape photography, something I used to do a lot more of but certainly not for a while or professionally.

So many great images/recorded memories of the family reunion, back in the hometown of Michael’s parents on the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand, Reefton. I wanted to show a brief (as brief as can be) preview for the family, but also to talk about the reason I love my job so much.  This brings back to our business name of Hyggelig Photography, the family weekend was FULL of Hyggelig moments. Whether it was Uncles & Aunties sharing childhood stories around the kitchen table @ midnight, or watching the new generation of babes meeting for the 1st time and playing soccer in the yard.

While I was away, my best friend lost a beloved family member to cancer and it really hit home to me and my Husband, how important this reunion was to us and everyone included. Family is such an important part of our lives whether they are relatives or friends we consider to be family every moment should certainly be treasured. This is why we believe so strongly in the power of photography, and the essence of what is our business, recording those Hyggelig moments.

Can you remember the last time you had some fun portraits of you and your family? How about your best friends? If not, you need to email me!

Next post, the “Babes of the Robbie Reunion”…

Janet
